The Financial Aid Process

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

•Apply on-line at FAFSA.GOV  to be considered for financial aid.
•Obtain an FSA ID. The FSA ID gives you access to Federal Student Aid’s online systems and can serve as your legal signature.
•CIIS Federal School Code: 012154

2. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)

•Once the FAFSA is processed by the Federal Student Aid (FSA) an email will be sent to you regarding the Student Aid Report (SAR).
•Read the SAR carefully and perform any corrections on-line as necessary.
•If corrections are made, allow 2 business days for the FAFSA corrections to be processed and for our office to receive your updated FAFSA data.

3. Additional required Documents

Once our office receives and reviews your FAFSA data, we will send you a message via email instructing you to complete and submit any additional required documents.

4. Evaluation Process: 1 – 2 weeks

Once all requested documents are submitted to our office, the 1 – 2 week evaluation process will commence. Your application status may change and/or additional documents may be requested from you. Please check your email frequently.

5. Award Notification

After the evaluation process, your award letter will be sent to you via email. No paper notices will be mailed.

You will be required to log in to your My CIIS Portal to Accept, Modify, or Decline your awards.

6. Disbursement of Funds

Financial aid is disbursed to your CIIS student account after the add/drop date and after confirmation of your enrollment. The business office will deduct any balances on your account from your financial aid funds. Any excess funds will be refunded directly to you. You have the option to enroll to receive your refunds via direct deposit by completing the appropriate forms available via ebiz Students who do not enroll in direct deposit will have a paper check printed and available from the business office during regular business hours.

7. Do Your Part!

•Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
•Make sure to update your contact information (mailing address, email, phone numbers) with the University.
•Check your email often
•Consult with our office if you have any questions or problems during the quarter
•Remember to apply for financial aid by completing a new FAFSA every academic year
